Al Habtoor ISG complete Abu Dhabi stadium
Abu Dhabi, 12 November 2009
Constructed in 1979, Sheikh Zayed National Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Abu Dhabi. Named after the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder and first president of the UAE, the stadium is now owned and managed by Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi state investment company.
Al Habtoor ISG were appointed in May 2009 as Management Contractor to deliver within 5 months a AED 60m refurbishment. Part of the scope involved extensive work on the seating areas and exits to comply with new FIFA safety regulations, thus reducing the capacity from the original 60,000 people to 49,500. The project was completed on time and the stadium was ready for the first football match between Manchester City and the UAE held on 12th November, the first of a six game FIFA tournament to be held in the newly refurbished stadium.
